King's College Hospital RFC beat local rivals Southwark Lancers 34-26 to secure their place in next week’s final of the Kent Vase competition.
A committed performance from the pack combined with some slick finishing from the backs including a hat-trick from centre John Behan saw King’s run out as victors in a closely contested semi-final.
Tries from Behan and Chris Walker saw King’s go into halftime 24-7, but Lancers mounted a spirited fightback to close the lead.
However, a try from Behan and a late penalty from Dave Child saw KCH pull away, ending the game 34-26.
Centre Ceri Thomas was named man of the match with notable other shifts from John Behan and Chris Walker, who scored the pick of the tries with a break from scrum half.
A special mention is due to veteran Byron Crofton for rolling back the years and playing the entire second half.
The final takes place this Sunday, as part of the Kent Rugby Finals day in Canterbury against Beccehamians.
